Fun and Relax Windsurfing in Walchensee. Drone Shots

The fun of windsurfing driving consists mainly of local thermal winds. These arise when it is possible at a cool night and in the morning when the sun shines clear. Then the flanks of Jochberg and Herzogstand heat up and thus pull the cool Talluft upward. Due to the jet effect of the mountains standing close together, the wind whistles northeast over the Walchensee. This local wind system is reinforced by the prevailing main wind direction from the northeast. The normal thermal wind is between 3-5 Beaufort.

The wind usually builds up around noon and stays until early evening. South currents and clouds over the Alps obstruct this local wind development. He is often compared to the Italian Lake Garda. But the wind at this point is really much earlier and blows more than at the meadow, the largest spot on the lake.

There are some good places to surf at Walchensee. For example in Urfeld, at the northern end of the lake. There, the wind sets in first and blows the strongest.

The best places to get started are on the waterfront opposite the windsurfing center in Walchensee, in Einsiedl and on the south bank between Einsiedl and Jachenau. There are plenty of parking spaces and large meadows with space for rigging.

Without exaggeration, one can say with justification that Walchensee is one of the most beautiful surfing areas in Germany. Not necessarily from the wind, but from its picturesque backdrop. The Walchensee is framed by Jochberg, Herzogstand and the Karwendelgebirge. It is located at 802m above n.N. and is accordingly cold, but also very clear. Until well into the early summer lie on the Karwendelgebirge still snow remains and make surfing here an unforgettable experience.

Then the flanks of Jochberg and Herzogstand heat up and thus pull the cool Talluft upward. Due to the jet effect of the mountains standing close together, the wind whistles northeast over the Walchensee. The effect is reinforced with already prevailing main wind direction from northeast.

Not only the lake with its surroundings is an experience in itself, the onset of the thermals is phenomenal. When you are in calm weather Walchensee, the thermal wind greets with a broad strip of choppy water, in contrast to the rest of the water, from the middle of the lake. At least that is the signal for rigging, because at the latest after one hour the wind has reached the southwest shore.

Basically, one can say that the wind spreads like a lying hand with outstretched and spread fingers over the lake. Looking at it from the west bank and pointing the fingertip of the middle finger to the south. But you realize that at the latest when you try to walk up.
