Spider Crabs V North Pacific Starfish

North Pacific Starfish(Asterias amurensis) is an invasive species found in Port Phillip Bay. Its a very active predator eating almost any animal it can climb on to. Aggregating Spider Crabs during their Moulting stage would be in danger of being eaten by these starfish if they were found in the same area. Fortunately thats not a regular occurrence but the scenes shown here shows it can happen. A first impression is scary but if you look carefully you will notice that most of the action is towards the old crab carapaces. Finding the main Spider Crab aggregation intact and constantly moving ahead of the Starfish was a real delight.
