Weedy Seadragons do not only rely on camouflage or passive resistance for defence. They can and do fight back, especially if protecting their eggs. New pink eggs on their tails are especially tempting to fish. After a few weeks the eggs get a protective covering of algae . Coming close to a Jetty provides some shelter to a Dragon burden by eggs but the disadvantage is that it also provided shelter to many hungry fish. Some Dragons are better than others in protecting their eggs.
