Yongala

Diving the wreck of the SS Yongala, Far North Queensland, Australia. A video put together of a SS Yongala Dive in April last year. Did you know the Adelaide Steamship Company owned the SS Yongala?

Whilst steaming near the Neptune Islands, South Australia in 1905 the Captain of the SS Yongala Commented in the Ship’s log that he has seen no vessel more majestic than that of the Loch Vennachar with her full sails set.

The Loch Vennachar and the Yongala exchanged signals. This was the last sighting of the Loch Vennachar, before she came to grief on the West Coast of Kangaroo Island.

(Check out my Loch Vennachar Wreck Video)

6 Years later, in 1911, the Yongala was lost, South of Townsville, North Queensland.

A gravesite, and protected by state and federal laws – the Yongala is not allowed to be penetrated.

Hope you enjoy this short footage.

Is this taken with your GH3? Are you using a red filter and manually white balancing? I would expect better color replication from this setup. I have 10 dives on the Yongala (across two liveaboard trips) – love the wreck!

Hi Bob, no not taken with GH3. It was my old GH2. Very milky day, and current was ripping. I don’t white balance any more in dive, can do that post. I run AWB as opposed to manual set like I used to. GH3 in vivid drives better colour from what I find. I run good video lights, so I do not push the filters any more either. – I like a your macro video – had a peak. Ciao
